One of our Pan-African investment managers specialising in private credit and private equity is seeking an experienced Co-Head of Legal & Compliance to jointly lead the legal and compliance function across the Group. The role covers regulatory compliance, corporate governance, transaction and fund support, contracts, employment matters, disputes and the management of external legal counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
Requirements include (but are not limited to):
• LLB degree and admission as an Attorney, with strong academic performance and a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally including in-house experience within financial services, funds or investment banking.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of legal and regulatory compliance requirements, including AML and FICA obligations, preferably across multiple jurisdictions, with exposure to FSCA regulatory requirements.
• Experience providing legal support on investment transactions and funds, including reviewing and negotiating NDAs, term sheets, engagement letters, investment agreements, legal opinions and ancillary transaction documentation.
• Proven ability to advise executives on legal and regulatory risk with limited supervision, manage corporate and compliance matters, and work effectively with external legal counsel and service providers across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong judgement, communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to take ownership of unfamiliar areas, build internal legal and compliance capabilities and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced investment environment.
